We redeveloped four retail units on the ground floor of Phoenix House to create a Theatre Bar and Merchandise Retail Lounge. We also installed a new accessible lift from ground floor to a new entrance at Dress Circle level and enlarged an existing opening between the rotunda entrance on Charing Cross Road and the newly created Theatre Bar. We renewed the ground floor fenestration and replaced an aging theatre canopy along Charing Cross Road and Phoenix Street to smartly integrate the facade of the building.
Originally Ambassador Theatre Group had engaged a different contractor to deliver this project, with an original programme of 20 weeks. After a challenging few months waiting for planning permissions and approvals, the original contractor was unable to fulfil this contract. ATG turned to G F Holding to see if we could fulfil this contract, but with a considerably reduced programme. We delivered it in 13 weeks and enabled Ambassador Theatre Group to meet their commercial commitment to Netflix.
This project involved crucial structural works, fast-paced procurement and close liaison with stakeholders, and neighbours in adjoining buildings. The programme was incredibly challenging, with the production company actively fitting out the venue ready for the opening of the show Stranger Things. However, working closely with the client, our suppliers and sub-contractors, we met the programme.
