This Mock-tudor façade building was originally a one screen cinema. We completely refurbished the building to create three screens with Sony 4K projection and Dolby 7.1 surround sound. As part of the refurbishment we installed a new internal steel frame and mezzanine floor sat on piled foundations.
The programme was 17 weeks and was challenging due to the commercial premises surrounding the building, and the residential flats above the cinema, which resulted in noise restrictions; and the proximity to the main road, with limited storage space for delivering materials.
The client’s objective is to provide comfort and luxury hospitality in their cinemas. We delivered this through the fit-out. As part of the refurbishment we provided new timber steppings to the screens, ceilings, floor finishes, acoustic wall finishes and sofa seating. We created and installed bespoke joinery fit-out to the lounge and bars, including timber panelling; and we installed reclaimed herringbone timber floor throughout the lounge and bar area.
As this was Dame Judi Dench’s local cinema, she officially opened the cinema.
