We have completed substantial and extensive alterations to an existing shell of a Bingo Hall to create a four screen cinema over three floors with two bars for Everyman.
The building was originally a Regal Cinema which opened in 1937, changing to ABC Cinema before it closed in 1969, becoming a Bingo Hall.
This £4million project, designed by Hudson Rock Design and with a programme duration of 35 weeks included: the complete internal strip-out, removal of asbestos to all floors, the installation of a new roof, external façade stone repairs, the installation of two independent steel structures to facilitate the construction of two screens on the original circle stadia, construction of all sound walls, mass barriers and new acoustic timber stadia, complete M&E installation including roof plant, the complete internal fit-out comprising new shop fronts, bars, bespoke timber wall panelling, feature ceilings, parquet flooring, seating and soft flooring.
The project was extremely complex internally, due to so many unknown factors being uncovered during the demolition. In addition the design allowed for a number of existing features within the building to remain undisturbed, which created further challenges. The building is on a bus route in a partial residential area which caused difficulties in terms of deliveries and waste disposal. Nonetheless we delivered the project successfully with the client commenting that this project was ‘superb – it is our jewel in the crown’.
