This project was the fit-out of a new build unit in Southampton as a Showcase de Lux. The General Manager of Showcase Cinemas UK commented: “Showcase is committed to leading the way for film viewing in the UK. We pride ourselves on offering cinema goers the greatest experience when watching a movie. From ultimate comfort with the recliner seating, to the latest audio-visual technology bringing films to life, a visit to Showcase Cinema de Lux will be more than just watching a film.”
Offering a cinema experience unlike any other in the country, the cinema became the first in the UK to have laser projection and Dolby Atmos as standard in every screen, giving Showcase customers the sharpest and brightest image quality and three dimensional sound.
We installed fully customisable electric recliners in every screen, so guests are able to lie back and relax in ultimate comfort. The ten state-of-the-art auditoriums also include a large format Xplus, which is the biggest screen not only in Southampton but on the whole of the South Coast. In addition, Showcase has delivered an enhanced food and drink offering, and as a result we have provided a high-end finish to the bar and concession areas, so customers gain a sense of luxury and theatre throughout their visit to Showcase de Lux Southampton.
A key challenge for this project was access, which was extremely difficult due to the delay of the shell construction of the leisure complex. The materials and debris were taken in and out of the building via a goods lift to Level 7. Despite experiencing a delay of over 8 weeks, again due to shell issues, we delivered the contract to the Client’s expectations within the programme and budget. We held regular progress meetings with our Client and key specialists flying over from the US, as significant design development was necessary to deliver this outstanding flagship project.
