We delivered the major restoration of Trafalgar Theatre, a Grade II listed, art deco theatre located in central London.
In 2004 the theatre underwent a makeover which also introduced a second studio, splitting the theatre into two venues. Our restoration included reinstating the theatre into a single 630 seat auditorium.
As part of the refurbishment we brought the theatre back to its original 1930s look. We undertook the restoration of the decoration in black and silver, with bronze and gold metallic tints. The Balcony front and grand ceiling were restored and refitted. The original balcony edge plaster panels had been stored for future reuse which we carefully, piece by piece, along with new structural supports, refitted back to its original location complete with a new steel removable lighting rig.
Alongside the restoration of the auditorium, we completely transformed the existing foyer back to its original décor, complete with new bar, box office and new ceramic floor tiling to match the existing pattern.
Technical facilities have been fully upgraded throughout, with extensive service upgrades that include more powerful and energy efficient ventilation systems.
With the theatre’s location in the centre of Whitehall there were several constraints in terms of the loading and unloading of materials and waste. We worked closely with Westminster City Council to resolve these challenges.
We delivered this project within the 15 week programme.
