We worked with the Distefano family once again to deliver their Champagne Bar within Selfridges in the Trafford Centre, Manchester. It was vital to work closely with both San Carlo and Selfridges, particularly as the development had to be completed within a tight timeline.
San Carlo commissioned Universal Design Studio, a London based design practice to develop the design, which was to be a celebration of Italian craft, luxury and beauty with a sense of softness, and elegance. To deliver this, we worked closely with the designers providing prototypes and samples of materials and details prior to going into production of the high-class finishes. The marble which formed the fluted bar front and dominant bullnose bar top were hand-picked from suppliers in Italy. The nickel-plated metal back fitting was constructed using traditional techniques that are not often used in current construction methods. The sculptured cloud chandelier made up of over 1000 handmade Venetian glass discs and spanning 20 feet in diameter sits over the bar. The luxurious handmade leather seating was also sourced from Italy.
We undertook detailed programming of the works, to ensure that the project was delivered on time, with night-time working so that Selfridges could maintain the normal operation of their store. The mechanical, electrical and catering installations required detailed liaison with Selfridges to ensure that the services were fully integrated.
