We delivered the complete remodelling of the former Playhouse Theatre on the Embankment to form a theatre in the round now known as the Kit Kat Club; which is now showing an immersive production of Cabaret.
The theatre, which originally opened in 1882, is a Grade II listed building. We ensured that we delivered a sympathetic renovation of the theatre. We installed a new ventilation system, which addresses concerns in relation to COVID-19. As the building is in central London, we worked closely with Westminster Council in terms of access and deliveries.
The programme was extremely challenging with the opening night announced and tickets going on sale to the public prior to receiving listed building consent, which meant we could not commence on site. 24 hour working was required at times to maintain the programme.
The project has been recognised by the Civic Trust, who awarded the Pro Tem Award 2023. The Civic Trust Pro Tem Awards recognise temporary structures and installations making an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the built environment.
