Specialist building and fit-out contractors, G F Holding have won the contract to restore and extend The Mayflower, a Grade II listed theatre in Southampton.
GF Holding will start on site in Spring 2018 when they start the £1million extension, during which time the theatre will remain fully operational. In mid-June the theatre will close for 12 weeks to allow G F Holding to undertake the internal restoration of the Art Deco building.
The restoration will include repainting the whole of the auditorium, installing brand new seating in the Stalls and Circle, increasing accessibility and improving technical and environmental efficiency. The work will provide higher levels of comfort and better access, whilst being sympathetic to the theatre’s 1920’s heritage.
The programme will be a challenge at only 12 weeks. However, with G F Holding’s experience of delivering high quality, quick-turnaround refurbishments the team are well-prepared to deliver this project.
Managing Director, Jeff Barton commented: “We are looking forward to delivering this project, and restoring the theatre to its former glory, whilst bringing it up to modern-day standards. Our experience within the heritage sector is second to none, having delivered numerous projects such as Stockport Plaza and Hammersmith Odeon.”
