We delivered the re-development of the All Hallows Holiday Park, which has been renamed as Kent Coast Holiday Park, to make it one of Haven Holidays’ ‘Parks of the Future’. The project included the development of an Adventure Village and the state of the art Marina Lounge.
The site itself came with challenges, as it was directly under where the German Luftwaffe flew as part of their Blitz campaign. As a result we needed to undertake an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) to ensure that the site was safe, with the UXO Technician assessing every hole we dug. A cannonball dating back to the 14th Century was unearthed. This is now on display in the Park.
As the site was on the Thames Estuary, it was important that we managed the development’s drainage system to not put too much pressure on the Estuary during periods of high rainfall. The agreed solution with the planning authority was to build a swale, an underground water system.
The Adventure Village includes: The Jump – a six metre fall onto a large airbag, climbing wall, bungee trampolines, a mini aerial adventure for younger guests, outdoor play area, sandpit with water features, a running track and a multi-use games area, as well as a doggy obstacle course. The Village also includes an outdoor stage with a screen for movies.
The Marina Lounge was a new build development, which includes a new state-of-the-art 1200-seater venue with big screens, an outdoor terrace, and a bar and kitchen. We installed an acoustic division within the venue, so different events can be held in two parts of the venue at the same time. The acoustic division includes two complex acoustic roller shutters, a glazed wall and sliding walls.
Access to the site for the delivery of plant and machinery was a challenge, as the Holiday Park is positioned close to a small village. We liaised closely with the local authorities to minimise disruption to the village residents. In addition, as the Park was open during some of the works, all deliveries to site had to be brought through the Park with an escort vehicle.
The works were undertaken in two phases across a programme of 52 weeks. This included a period of extreme heat, where works had to be stopped for the welfare of the operatives. Despite the challenges of this project, we delivered the programme on time.
