We were proud to sponsor this year’s Macclesfield Bikeathon, which took place on Saturday 11th May 2024.
The Bikeathon concept is simple – book, turn up to ride and raise money for Just Drop In Macclesfield, which is a local charity supporting children and young people finding life hard. Just Drop In seeks to: create a safe space, instil a sense of self-worth and hope, relieve the young person’s struggles, embrace and develop their strengths, and build their resilience to face the world with renewed self-confidence.
The Bikeathon had three different cycle routes – a Family Route of 12 miles; the Cheshire Plain of 30 miles; and the Cheshire Plain of 60 miles.
The Family Route went north out of Macclesfield along The Middlewood Way towards Poynton where the route joined the road and headed south back towards Macclesfield. Our Health & Safety Manager, Matt Brammer, alongside his son, Abe, cycled this route.
The Cheshire Plain 30 miles headed west from Macclesfield towards Jodrell Bank then north towards the feed station at Great Warford Baptist Church. Then it was on to Alderley Edge and Mottram St Andrew before returning to the Macclesfield town centre where the welcome of the finish line awaits. Whilst the 60 miles followed the same route to Great Warford but continued west following quiet Cheshire lanes towards Tatton Park. From here more country lanes linked to Byley where the route turned for home heading northeast back towards the feed station for another refreshment stop and the final push back to Macclesfield to collect the finishers’ goodies. Our keen cyclist, Commercial Director, Martin Leyden, cycled the 60 miles – and enjoyed the well-deserved free pint of beer at the end of the route.
Well done Martin, Matt and Abe!
